Holiday Party Makeup Tips

Everyone wants to look great during the holidays. It’s the one time a year many of us get a chance to dress up and have fun with the makeup. There are a few simple tips for the hottest holiday makeup trends that you can use to create a flawless holiday look without overdoing it.

Dramatic Lips

If you choose to go with a bolder color for lips the mantra to follow is “keep it simple”. Make your lips the focus by using a rich color, and leave the eyes and cheeks simple. A light brush of mascara and a bit of powder may be all you need with dramatic lips. Using a lip stain rather than a lipstick will keep it from smudging onto clothing or someone’s face when you hand out the holiday hugs.

Metallics and Glitter Makeup

Silver and gold are the colors for the holidays, and they are available in multiple types of makeup. Metallic’s look great when used on the eye for an accent, and also look good when used as a blush. However, it’s easy to use too much. Too much metallic makeup on the eyes look clown-ish, and too much on the face can give you a shiny, fake look. Remember to use metallic makeup sparingly on the face, or, in the alternative, use a bold metallic nail polish instead of metallic makeup.

Smoky Eyes

Bold smoky eyes are a great look for fall and winter. It’s easy to apply too much, and then you are left looking like you have two black eyes. Keep the colors soft and apply sparingly at first. You can always add layers of more color as you go to achieve the look you want. Blending is very important as well. Use a soft brush to blend in any sharp lines of color around the eye.
